You might be surprised where your "local" drivers are starting their trips from. Not all Legian based drivers live in or near Legian - same with any of the tourist areas. While some will rent room, many still go home to their villages.
My friend and driver is based in Legian but lives in Tabanan and goes home to his family every night. He's more than happy to pick up guests from Legian, Sanur, Ubud - wherever they wish to stay.
