Day 1 Beijing/Urumqi

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Urumqi, a surprisingly modern city set in the middle of vast deserts. On arrival, you will visit to the Museum of National Minorities and History. In the evening your local tour guide will escort you to the hotel for check in.

Day2 Urumqi/Heaven Lake/Kashgar

Sites Visited: Heavenly Lake

A delightful day is spent visiting the beautiful ‘Heavenly Lake' which is located about halfway up the 5,000 metres high Bogda Mountain. The drive to this green pine-covered mountain past many Kazakh yurt encampments is as interesting as the lake itself. and a Evening transfer to the airport for your flight to Kashgar where you will spend one night at the Chinibagh Hotel.

Day 3 Kasghar

Sites Visited: Sunday Bazaar, Id Kah Mosque, Abakh Hoja Tomb

Feel yourself surrounded by an almost medieval way of life as you wander through Kasghar's famed Sunday Market. Visit the Id Kah Mosque and the Abakh Hoja Tomb.

Day 4 Kasghar/Taxkorgan

Sites Visited: Bulunkou lake, Muztagh Ata, Konger Shan Mountains, Stone City

Drive to Taxkorgan via China-Pakistan highway,visit the Bulunkou lake,Pamir plateau landscape,Karakul Lake and Muztagh Ata(7546m in altitude)-called the'Father of Glacier',Konger Shan Mountains(7719m in altitude). On arrival,visit the Stone City and Golden grassland before sunset.

Day5 Taxkorgan/Kasghar/Urumqi

Drive back to Kashgar,then take evening flight back to Urumqi

Day 6 Urumqi/Turpan

Sites Visited: Gaochang Ruins, Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves, Astana Tombs, Uygur dance performance

During your coach journey to Turpan you will pass through spectacular desert where small oasis towns are irrigated by an impressive series of underground channels carrying water from the distant Tianshan Mountains. Visit the ruins of the ancient city of Gaochang(Kara-Khoja) which is 47km southeast of Turpan. Continue on to the Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves, a picturesque site overlooking cliffs and a lush river valley in the heart of the Flaming Mountains. A stop will be made at the Astana Tombs. In the evening a Uygur dance performance will be arranged. Overnight at the Turfan Hotel.

Day 7 Turpan/Dunhuang

Sites Visited: Jiaohe Ruins, Emin Minaret, District Museum

Today visit the ruined city of Jiaohe, just 10km west of Turpan, and the Emin Minaret, one of the architectural gems of the Silk Road. Return to Turpan and visit the District Museum which houses a collection of historical artefacts from the area. Evening transfer to the station to board the night train to Dunhuang, a great oasis in the west of Gansu province.

Day 8 Dunhuang

Sites Visited: Mogao Grottoes, Mingsha Dunes, Crescent Moon Lake

Once an important caravan stop on the Silk Road, today the city is renowned as the site of the greatest trove of Buddhist art the world has known - the Mogao Grottoes which date back to AD366 - and today you will visit these fascinating caves. A stop will be made at Mingsha Dunes - ‘Singing Sand' - where you can make a (steep) climb up the massive sand dunes for a great view of Crescent Moon Lake. Overnight at the Dunhuang Hotel.

Day 9 Dunhuang/Jiayuguan

Depart by coach for the 6 hour/390km journey to Jiayuguan, the western starting point of the Great Wall. On arrival you will be transferred to the Jiayuguan Hotel for overnight.

Day 10 Jiayuguan/Lanzhou
Meals: B, L, D
Sites Visited: Great Wall Museum

A day to explore the town of Jiayuguan and visit the Great Wall Museum, the ‘underground gallery' in tombs from the Wei and Jin periods AD220-240, and Jiayu Fort which is known as the ‘Impregnable Pass Under Heaven'. Evening transfer to the station for an overnight train journey to Lanzhou.

Day 11 Lanzhou

Sites Visited: Bingling Temple Grottoes (Bingling Thousand Buddha Caves)

Morning arrival when you will check into your Hotel for one nights. Then drive to Liujiaxia Dam on the Yellow River tributary where you will board a small boat for a stunning river trip through dramatic scenery to the Bingling Temple Grottoes where niches and statues are cut deep into high cliffs.

Day 12 Lanzhou/Xiahe

Sites Visited: Provincial Museum, White Pagoda Hill

Visit to the Provincial Museum, White Pagoda Hill .Then travel by coach to Xiahe via Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region which was a key passage on the ancient Silk Road between East and West and also a major thoroughfare for exchanges between the Han and other nationalities of China. Spend two nights at the Labuleng Hotel.

Day 13 Xiahe

Sites Visited: Labrang Lamasery

Often referred to as ‘Little Tibet', Xiahe is famous as the site of one of the six leading Buddhist lamaseries in China, the Labrang Lamasery. The lamasery houses thousands of cultural relics including 60,000 volumes of Tibetan scriptures which have been well preserved. There will also be an opportunity to meet the semi-nomadic herdsmen of the surrounding grasslands.

Day 14 Xiahe/Tongren
Meals: B, L, D

Drive to Tongren, Tongren is located in Huangnan area which is famous for its Tibetan Repkong art. Overnight at TongrenHotel.

Day 15 Tongren/Ta'er Lamasery/Xining
Meals: B, L, D
Sites Visited: Ta'er Lamasery

Drive to Huangzhong,Vsit Ta'er Lamasery in the morning. It's the birth place of the founder of the Yellow Sect (also called Gelu Sect) Tsong Khapa. In the Tibetan language, Ta'er Monastery is called "gongben" which means 100, 000 figures of Buddha. Ta'er monastery is famous for its butter sculptures, the barbolas, and the murals. Overnight at Xining.

Day 16 Xining/Beijing

Sites Visited: Tian'An Men square, Fobidden City, Temple of Heaven

Take morning flight to Beijing ,on arrival, visit the Tian'An Men square, the Fobidden City, the Temple of Heaven .


Day 17 Beijing
Meals: B, L, D
Sites Visited: Mutianyu Great Wall, 2008 Beijing Olympic Venues

Full day excursion to Mutianyu Great Wall,visit the National Stadium (The Bird's Nest) and the National Aquatic Centre (The Water Cube), ,enjoy the farewell diner--Beijing Roast Duck.

Day 18 Exit

Transfer to the airport,take a flight and go back home
