Qantas has just trumpeted a reduction in points needed to take a QFF flight with Jetstar.
In February this year, I took a QFF flight from Bali to Perth which cost me 18,000 QFF points and $A34 cash.
I have just checked the QFF website and the same flight will now cost me 14,400 QFF ponts and $US66 cash. The $US66 cash figure includes a mysterious $US52.12 carrier fee.
I presume what has happened is that the ACCC has forced the airlines to charge a real credit card fee and Qantas has chosen to recover lost profits with this mysterious $US52.12 carrier fee. To soften the blow, Qantas has reduced the number of QFF points required.
The mysterious $US52.12 carrier fee does not show up with all QFF bookings. I tried to book a QFF flight from Bali to Saigon via Singapore. The QFF website showed the cost to be a more reasonable 14,400 QFF points and $US9.68 cash. There was no mention of the mysterious $US52.12 carrier fee.
In addition, the QFF flights taken with Jetstar will now no longer show a QF flight number.
