The buggies are great fun and yes safe, you have a helmet to wear and are asked to wear safe shoes, closed in sneakers, crocs etc.. Goggles are available to buy but you can get away with sunglasses, the dust being the major factor here when not very wet and muddy. You are shown a video of how to manage the buggies, but it is in with a dvd of canyon tubing and quad biking and is only a very short piece. You hav e2-3 trips around a training course with either of the 2 allowed in the buggy driving, you have ample opportunities to swap drivers during the day.
The buggies do break down and you will find they swap you over very quickly with the spare that follows. Always guides in front and behind you to make sure you are safe. There are some very steep spots and the brakes are different to what you will be used to. You have to pump the brake constantly to stop, just pushing the brake once will not stop the buggy, the accelarator needs to be kept on as they will stall, easy fix by turning the key to start again.
It is a great day, very funny and exciting, you drive through jungle mostly but also slowly through villages, all the kids will try to high five you. The lunch is enjoyable at the end and given with a drink, there are hot showers and a miniscule towel loaned but the water is intermittent and unless you get really wet and dirty not necessary.
