The local NT Government is having talks with Garuda early in the year to see if they can get them back. Garuda operated in Darwin for 20 odd years but pulled out after a price war with Jet* in 2008 (Jet* also managed to kill AirAsia who were also doing the Darwin-Bali route) There is also talks of them bringing back the Kupang, Timor Leste, route which was a reasonably popular destination for Territorians until Merpati stopped flying the route, so it could possibly be a Bali via Kupang.
Garuda flying out of Brisbane may also impact on Jet* Darwin-Bali leg as Brisbane-Darwin-Bali has proved quite popular, and well under the $840 Virgin price quoted here.
Anyway, competition may well benefit Territorians on the short term as Jet* will no doubt go into damage control and start offering $99 return tickets again in an attempt run off another competitor.
