You don't need a work permit if you work on line. I'm in Sanur, which is still the best bargain in price and quality of life in the south.

I use Garuda (whatever) as my unlimited 1m. . . (again whatever). Rp.600,000 mth plus a one off of about Rp.6 million for the tower.

The Australian tourists continue to degrade expat life on the island, but there's no stopping them. Sanur has largely been spared the degradation inflicted on Kuta and its north. Avoid the developing areas like Canggu which will be building sites (with attendant pot-holed roads) for next 50 yrs.

Get a bicycle and a place within 400m of the Sanur beach and you'll have it made.

PS get the book "Island of Bali" and learn about the locals you'll be living with.
