Went to tried & true favourite, Cafe Seafood Muslim in Jl Kediri.. have eaten there many times and the food is always consistently good. A meal for two (appetiser, 2 main courses and rice, juices and coffee) will set you back about 90-100,000! I really like their cumi-cumi goreng tempura..while not exactly tempura, it is yummy nonetheless, and I rate their mie goreng ayam as the best in Bali. The ikan bakar is also good - personally I like the krapu, guarami not so much. For a more Western style meal, we tried and liked Mozarella in Jl Kartika Plaza - food was delicious and excellent service. Some nice meals at Kuta Lagoon (the Confit of Chicken is always good, also some set menu specials..e.g. pumpkin soup and garlic bread, surf and turf, banana flambe and a large bintang all for $10 AUD!) and also went to Benny's Bistro in Seminyak, across from the Breezes. This is more average fare but good nonetheless and enjoyed the atmosphere at night, sitting in the garden area (mozzie coils provided). SA Cafe is always pretty consistent (nice fish) and also tried Warung Segara - some nice food, liked the chicken in spicy sauce - but most food came with just chips or rice - would have liked to be able to get some vegies.
For ladies/gents looking for a BARGAIN hair salon in the Tuban area, I went to Nanik Salon (Jl Kubu Anyar No. 20). I had creme bath with steam treatment, 20 minute head, neck and shoulder massage, wash, cut and blow dry... my boyfriend had the same, minus the cut and blow dry and it cost 85,000 for the both of us!! The staff are friendly and will pop out and get you a coffee if you want it. And smokers, you may also puff away while relaxing under the steam machine... aahhhh.
Also, went to Garlic Lane looking for bigger size clothing for ladies..unfortunately I forget the name of the shop now, but it was opposite Ours Restaurant. This clothing was more "wear out to dinner back home" quality, so a little pricey by Bali standards (set price, but possible to haggle if you wish), but their clothes are very nice and also cool and comfy.
OK - here's the whinge. Some of you may already know I have an Indonesian partner who is a musician. I really find it quite rude and irritating that many guests in the restaurants are continually texting on their phones or are glued to their i-Pads/laptops ... they ignore the musicians, even when they address the guests to ask if they have a request, and never give applause. Is it just me or is this really rude? I mean, these people don't even talk to the person next to them! As Einstein said, 'I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.'
