when talking about tourist 60 day visa which (at least in Perth) is issued using the same form as a visa requiring sponsors etc. but without the need for sponsors, it can be renewed either at the immigration office near the airport or via an agent which will of course cost more. I have read accounts on here from people who have done it both ways and know that there are many agents around who will do it. I don't believe it is ilegal although the use of the single form for both kinds of visa does indeed make it confusing.
