I believe, throughout the later part of the year, they have a series of heats and then the final, it is a region V's region thing, quite prestigious I believe. I did look into it some time ago, but finding information and event dates is difficult, but from memory they are run from July through to late October/November. I caught a glimpse of what looked like buffalo races in a field just before you come into Negara last year, but it was packed with people and fan fair so I'm unsure if this was the official site or even the races.
In days gone by they used to use the buffalo to churn up the rice paddies before planting, and men being men, this of course turned into races between them and although they rarely use the buffalo for this the challenge continues.
