Northern Bali - Lovina or Pemuteran

Hi

We are going to Bali for 6 weeks on the 31st of December.

Anyone know of what goes on for New years??

Also we are looking at going to northern Bali for a few days - anyone have any suggestions about where to stay? mid range budget, we are keen to do some diving. Have heard Menjangan Island is pretty nice to visit too.
I have been looking at Lovina and the Permuteran area to book a hotel but not sure, would love some recommendations :)
Does anyone know anything about the East coast of Bali? Is there anything spectacular out that way?
Has anyone walked through the National Park on the North Western side?

So many questions! haha
