The pros and cons of staying at Taman Sari Cottages are as follows:

Pros
Cheap - I normally pay Rp 250,000 per night, though they ask for Rp 300,000.

Own generator - there are frequent power cuts in Bali

Close to everything - a short walk to the Bombing Monument in Jalan Legian

Swimming Pool - small but sufficient

Includes a light breakfast - good, but I pay Rp 40,000 to upgrade the breakfast to an American Breakfast

No Bounty crowd - the Bounty crowd go elsewhere.

Balcony - big enough to sit outside your room.

Reception - they will store your bags after you checkout and you are waiting for your plane

Discount - show your room key and you get a 10% discount on your drinks

Honest - I never had a problem with the bill

Quiet - I never hear the nightclubs inside my room

Restaurant - I like to sit near the laneway and watch the people pass by. The staff are nice and efficient. I have never been sick from the food there. They passed the health inspectors' tests.

Cons
Swimming pool ladder - the ladder has been broken for the last six years

Furniture - the furniture in the rooms is very old

Beds - two hard single beds with brown blankets

Radio - the radios in the rooms have not worked for the last ten years

TV - only local Indonesian stations

Laneway - the traffic on the footpath is hectic with drunks and motorcycles all sharing the footpath
