I think you can take the 2 ltr as the allowance is per person, so this = 1 ltr each... However, I always find it quicker to not declare, for some reason they only ever xray my bag at the check point after collecting luggage & I'm off like a rocket, never ever had it opened in 8 visits.
I think the trick at DPS is to be quick off the plane & dont stuff about in getting to pay on arrival visa desk, its the next immigration line where you spend your time waiting (they arent usually in a hurry to do they're jobs), get there quickly & avoid the line.
I ASSUME, that the last customs area you go through rely upon Aussie customs to pick up anything not kosher, so they mostly take your word you have nothing? Thats a pure ASSUMPTION, but it works for me.
Have a good trip & again, be quick off the plane, every person you pass from the plane to pay on arrival saves you about 90 seconds in the humid customs line!
