I have done the trip and was very worried when the motors cut out and we drifted towards heavy surf at padang bai,they only got them started moments before the boat would have been dumped in the huge waves.
Would i do it again? possibly ( but only with Blue water express),would i do it with small children? no way!
If the trip turns out as rough and bumpy as my trip you may wish you would have taken the extra trouble to fly.
I would go as much as saying it would be irresponsible to take such small children on the speed boat crossing because the safety or concern for passenger safety on Indo speed boats is not what you would expect at home. over loaded boats with no life rafts and not nearly enough life jackets for everyone. just my opinion though of my personal experience but others may have found it fine.
