I wouldn't go as far as taking your own container. Choose food they wrap in brown paper like a rice cake and some sate.
I've seen the crockery and cutlery washed in water that'd make the Yarra river look pristine.
Even food like gado gado served in newspaper is better than using the bowls and knives/forks supplied by the kaki lima.
