another grandparent on the Forum is trying to convince her son to travel with his Autistic daughter. My mentioning what set my son off or situations he wasn't happy with gives her food for thought. Yes every Autisic child is different. But most are adverse to loud music, walking thru crowds or just places unfamiliar to them, it didn't occur to us, we just didn't think at the time. Now it's in my note book that I keep to remind me how he reacted to those situations. We've taken our son to many places he's unhappy about but if we didn't we would go no where and see no one. Like all parents we try not to have his disability govern our lives and if my writing about it makes one family take the plunge they would see Bali and many other places in a completely different light. I am not a martyr, far from it, but being about to take my son overseas makes me very proud of him when he's laughing his head off at what he sees out of the window of the car, or giggling non stop as his dad throws him over his shoulder in the pool. Or being so difficult walking thru a crowd of people but smile like a cheshire cat when we get thru that crowd and sit in a cafe for a pizza.
