May sound a silly comment but we have always found by sitting and having a drink firstly then secondly looking (using our eyes) at the food that comes out a pretty good guage. We would never consider sitting where there is no one else eating as it is a pretty good guage that food is not up to scratch. In this case, we use the feet and try somewhere else.
As others have said, do you inspect the kitchens of everywhere you eat other than home? Do you inspect your friends kitchens? When you open a can of tomatoes, do you ask to inspect the manufactures kitchen. You go on holidays knowing things may not be up to your own standards. Sure it goes through your mind that things may not be done to my expectations but that is the chance you take. If you dont wish to take the chance, there is plenty of self preparation meals on the shelves but then... they were prepared in someone elses kitchen...
