"modern city" sherb.
I see no trappings of what would generally be considered part of a modern city as defined by most westerners.
There is no clearly defined transport system, high rise, hotels, bars and not at all like Sing, KL or any of the normally considered "modern cities".
Perhaps more of a mini Jakarta, but again very much the small sister.
Renon does have some nice avenues with wide streets and trees, but of course this is the diplomatic area and would be a little more upmarket in that way.
Places of interest?, yes there is Puputan Square with its sad history and the museum but not a lot else springs to mind.
I still like it for what it is, but visitors that I have taken there do not always see it through the same (perhaps somewhat left field) eyes (or nose) that I do.
We occasionally stay for a while in Denpasar, I like it.
