When we have gone to large tourist attractions we have given the driver money for lunch but recently we stopped at a roadside restaurant and asked him to join us as there was nowhere else for him to go, other than sit in the car. He came but was obviously uncomfortable with the situation and when another couple turned up he left the restaurant to go to the street and chat to their driver. I think he would have like to say no but thought it discourteous.
