I visit Amed regularly and love it but it would only be ideal if you chose a Hotel on the beach and without too many steps. Mic and BTF could help you with that one.
It could also involve a lot of time on your own as Amed is far from "commercialised". That could involve a lot of "inward" thinking which I am sure you have already done.
Locals are friendly. Some beautiful day trips around, particularly to Tirtta gangga for lunch and maybe a swim in the Holy Water pool. Sailing in the Jukungs, and snorkelling are plus's however I just enjoy a good book (take your own) or gazing into space.
...but for true emotional healing Balian has proved to me time and again an absolute "winner". Whereas Amed has calm, generally flat seas, Balian has rolling surf. There is more Energy in the air and you can be as insular as you like or link with some amazing people from all around the world. The locals and visitors people are uncomplicated and truly appreciate and respect this special environment.
Check out Gajah Minah, but also consider Pondok Pitaya...basic accom but right on the ocean. Many different types of rooms. This place has saved my sanity many times. Non commercial as such, non materialistic, and linked to nature in a perfect way. The hub would be the open sided restuarant where you can withdraw with a book or your own thoughts, or have some interesting conversations. Massages on the beach bale whilst listening to the surf are another plus.
Also check out Shankaris resort..another ideal place. Five minutes from the ocean and the Pondok.
Nicky and the staff are so healing. Have a Holy water blessing with a High priest, morning meditation and a walk to visit a local, or Yoga, or silk screen painting or...the list goes on at Shankari's.
Whatever your Life currently needs..just "put it out there"...It will come to you. Your life is about to turn around.
