As a nurse I have seen a lot of clients with this over last 2 years and increased this year. Interestingly many of them have had recent vaccinations (new mothers n grandies can have the jab post delivery free)and our Dr's are saying they have read some publications stating that the pathology results are indicating a completely new strain that the vaccination is not covering.
Sure sounds to me like you both have Whooping cough... get some antibiotics into you definitely but I feel you will remain unwell for a while, its a nasty illness.
