I emailed and said we had 5 riders and 3 nonriders but don't really think that's necessary. The van follows the route anyway, ready to pick up anyone who's had enough. They were also happy to load up our group and leave one guide to go with a (younger!) couple who wanted more. The riding bit is an exhilarating part of a great day out.
