Less than 30 days before your trip. Take the phone and the full tax receipt make sure it has your name and address on and claim back at the gst refund counter . I have done this with my iPad last year and various cameras and other devices for the kids since it started .That way you can put all your contacts in the phone before you leave plus any aps you want too and leave all the packaging behind in Perth. Plus you can get the phone at a good price. So long as the receipt is for more than $300. You can do this with many items just don't by it online.
