I have a friend who has just finished up working at a villa where guests pay $2000 a night to stay. She was paid approx $100 a month. She could be asked with no notice to stay until 10-11pm at night if the guests wished to have a party, even though she has a toddler at home. If the guests wanted a massage or other treatment as she was ready to leave work, she would have to stay and do this. Refusal could mean loss of her job.
One of her last pays before she left, she had overtime payment for the month of just Rp10K on top of her normal wage, for countless extra hours worked but since no records were kept of her hours, she had no way to argue the amount.
She's much happier now she's left and set up her own little shop. Even though it was a struggle to begin, she's not stressed and things are picking up.
