I love the story of a young woman walking along a road in the 30's when she saw a car, which obviously belonged to a Dutch official, grinding towards her.
She knew about the new dress code so as the car aproached she raised her sarong to cover what she knew the Dutch considered to be the naughty bits.
But,like a good Scot she wasn't wearing anything under her kilt/sarong was she.
So remember, when you great granny was wearing neck to knee the Balinese women suffered no such Victorian constraints.
