then the owner MUST be an Indonesian citizen. No non-citizen can ever own freehold land so unless your friend is an Indonesian citizen he/she does not own freehold land. The most that will be being sold is the lease of that land. Any deal that has been done to give the impression of owning freehold land will be at the very least complex and at the worst clearly illegal. It would be better to steer well clear of any involvement. Let him consult the notaris who acted for him in the purchase and get an official opinion.
