I reported a theft to the police after not being able to resolve it with management. The management then called police in themselves, not to investigate the situation as a theft but to intimidate me into withdrawing the complaint. After letting them look through my stuff once, they kept coming back to the hotel to re-search my luggage and when I refused they took me down to the police station where they kept me for about 4 hours trying to get money out of me. In the end, they let me file a police report for the missing items and charged me rp250,000 for it. The next day I saw one of the police hanging around the hotel in plain clothes so I checked out of the hotel and went somewhere else. It was a pretty confronting situation and I am sure that it was the management of the hotel who had initiated it to save their own arses.
