since we spend 4 months a year in Bali it stands to reason that we have a 1/3 chance of one of us dieing there sooner or later, hopefully later. We will also scatter the ashes there. The main thing is, in my opinion, that it gets talked about because when somebody dies the thing that seems of primary importance at the time is "What would they have wanted?". I believe than certain religions do not favour cremation so that of course is another factor in suggesting this course of action.
Condolences to the OP and her family. Dealing with an unexpected death of a family overseas is a very traumatic event indeed.
