Well said - "... hope the government was doing more to improve this".
No wonder most tourist stay in their hotel grounds rather than explore the beach.
Hotels that are on the beach have an obligation to keep the beach clean.
I have been in Bali when the stench of dead fish and debris has been so great that it has enveloped the beach front resort that we were staying in. (When on my own I stay in a place for AU$17 pn).
My friend, Eddie, says, the beach provides him with income therefore he must respect that and keep the beach clean. And it is kept clean, but just in that area that surrounds him.
The hotels must play a part in this and provide resources that keep the beach clean - low and high tide.
Do hotels currently have an input to keep the beach clean?
Perhaps a mobile incinerator of some kind - after hours might be the go. Yes, pollution, but not in your face! Any other ideas?
All the traders on the beach should (maybe), be responsible for their area and continually keep the beach clean - low and high tide. This needs to be a daily occurence supported by traders and local hotels and governments.
I love Bali! But at the rate of pollution in and out of the water makes me concerned for its future. There does not seem to be a coherent approach to this problem.
I was asked by a taxi driver some time ago, what was best for Bali, I said, clean up the beach!
I go to Bali because of its surf, the wonderful people I meet and the food. I would rather go here than anywhere else. But the pollution is getting so bad that I will,(sorry to say), may need to look elsewhere.
What can be done?
What do I know?
What can you do?
What can we do together?
Form an association? With expert knowledge - local and international?
Hey, your call!
Thanks for reading :)
