Is there ever flight specials at xmas?

Has anyone ever had flight specials at Christmas on any airline from Melb to Denp? Best I can see 28/12-7/1 at the moment is around $1200. Just wondering if you have experience in knowing do they usually go up or down between now and then or am I better off booking now before they fill up? I have already booked accomodation.
