Just came across this news report,

At least one Australian is believed to be among those killed in a small plane crash in East Kalimantan in Indonesia.

The plane, operated by charter airline Susi Air, crashed near a village in the Kutai Kartanegara district after 5pm local time last night.

'It belonged to Susi Air, and one of the dead is an Australian,' National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said.

But the Jakarta Globe newspaper reported that the bodies of two Australians had been pulled from the wreckage of the aircraft, which was discovered on Thursday morning.

It is unclear how many people were on board the plane when it went down.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra said it was trying to confirm whether any Australians had been killed.

'We are aware of reports of a plane crash in Indonesia,' a DFAT spokesperson said.

'The Australian embassy in Jakarta is urgently seeking to confirm with local authorities whether any Australians were involved.'

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency said later that air controllers had lost contact with the plane, believed to be a Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft, at 5.10pm on Wednesday.

The wreckage was found at 1.30am local time today.
It is believed the plane crashed into a cliff.
