Their tactics are ususally to start a conversation and give some stories about having no sales, so just don't engage with them if you don't want to shop. They will always say they have had no salesm or it's been very quiet. There are plenty of other market stalls around that don't use the same methods.
Don't stress too much....I've run the gauntlet more than once and never been enticed off the beach path. Last time I carried a video camera and just kept my eye on the lense as if I was taking a film. That worked.
If you want to market shop, ask for directions to Tootsie's - a fixed price stall. (not been there myself, just read about it)
