Like others, I found the dolphin encounter to be fantastic. Enjoyed Safari park, and Taro elephant park. Gaining the confidence over the years to try more and more local foods from local settings has been fun too.

Two very special experiences stand out.

Balinese friends bringing a feast to the hotel for my mum's birthday a couple of years ago. This is, no doubt, my mum's favourite experience. They arrived, two of them on a bike with her around 6 months pregnant, with nasi kuning - a huge platter with a central cone of yellow rice, surrounded by various different dishes. It weighed a tonne and I have no idea how they managed it, but you do see all kinds of things being lugged about on bikes, lol. It was a complete surprise, and absolutely delicious! Hotel security helped polish it off as 5 of us barely made a dent in it.

But my absolute standout was being able to attend the wedding of the friends I just mentioned, in Karangasem a few years ago. Being welcomed by everyone as if I'd always been part of the family, though none of them spoke english aside from one cousin. They tested my minimal Indonesian to it's absolute limits! It's going to be very hard for me to top that special day.
