Its all been downhill since I spent a year there in 1983. The decade after that was a rapid decline, ever accelerating. Since about 1990 I have spent as little time as possible in Bali, electing to spend time in other parts of Indonesia.
Recently, in desperation at first, I have spent time in other SE asian locations which I have enjoyed way more.
Sad to see mass tourism destroying the culture of what was once one of the great places in the world.
I know I am one of the tourists who helped the decline, but thankfully there are still other places for me to eke out my existence.
