I have walked to the perimeter before to catch a cab, and it certainly wasn't because of the cost. It was because of the length of the queue at the Taxi Booth.
Having once queued for over an hour to get a cab there, I wasn't making the same mistake again, not after an 18 hour journey from the UK. Was nice to be out in the sun, on foot - not standing still in a queue getting pee'd off. No recollection of the cost of my taxi journey though.
