I have invited luckily to quite a few Balinese weddings and always asked protocol and was told money in envelope which was then dropped in a box on entry to the festivities...I think there are usually three days of celebration and unless you are classed as "family"..it is usually to the third day I think it is, when everybody drops in all day and into night to eat and meet.
