If you want to get out and see some interesting scenery, culture, etc then spend more time on the mainland island of Lombok. The (very) small atoll off Lombok, Gili T, is more a place to relax and do nothing.
Where you centre yourself on Lombok depends on what you want to do and how you are getting to/from the island.
