I so glad that you still supporting your student's schooling. We transferred the funds to Bali once a month for eight years, the transaction fee change by Bank SA each month was $32. All banks charge a similar amount. Have you looked at your bank statement to check on how much you were charged?. Some sponsors will find the extra $32 a struggle, because many are on low wages or aged pension. The reason I offered PayPal was because we were missing out on overseas sponsors because of the International fund transfer fees charged by the banks.
If a cheque is sent it must be a bank cheque is sent then needs to be in Indonesian Rp.
