has been that on the beach or in the smaller shops they might suggest the sunglasses have UV protection but my experience is they don't. Other people may have experienced something different. I too use to wear the cheapies and still keep them around the place but the majority of time I wear a brand name purchased in Australia that offers both UVA and UVB protection to 99%. I have seen something you can use to check if sunglasses have the UV protection but I do not know where you get it. UVA and UVB can damage your eyes and cause a number of eye conditions including cataracts. More recently HEV (High Energy Visible Light) has been implicated in the development of age related macular degeneration and some companies are now producing sunglasses that protect against HEV.
