I don't love Bali - used to decades ago. It's a cheap, convenient & in parts very beautiful holiday destination & my husband spends several months/year surfing elsewhere in Indonesia. We travel to other countries &, without being obsessive about it, try to keep abreast of current affairs there & learn about their histories & cultures.

I agree that people should learn about places they travel to - the good & the bad. I spend hours weekly researching our trips & read all I can about the places we visit. BUT not everyone does. And you can't blame them, although you seem to.

Sadly, Indonesia is one of many countries where religious &/or cultural persecution is condoned by their Governments. I mentioned Christians in Indonesia merely as an example that people on this forum might easily relate to.

As I said initially, I agree with your original comments. And good on you for posting.
