All depends on the time of year, have heard some horror stories on the boat trips. At the moment with big storms in Bali it wouldn't be a good idea. We usually fly (haven't been since the new airport opened) and spend a couple of days at Senggigi& then 3 or 4 days on Gili T. The resorts usually have their own speed boats to pick you up & take you across to the island.
