You can Google Bali Dolphin Lodge for more info & pics. We asked our friend Bagus to book for us, as I had heard of some people having mix-ups with their bookings when booking through the website. When we booked last year over the net, we were told they were booked out for the whole of our trip. Needless to say, we were quite disappointed. However, we got a message at reception to ring them, as they had a cancellation. So this time, I thought it would be easier to get someone here to book for me. We did have to book well in advance. A couple of months I think??
The Turtle Education & Conservation Centre is also on Serangan Island. We passed another, smaller centre on the way to the dolphins, but the one we went to can be found if you ask the driver to 'drive you around the island'. They have a giant turtle statue out the front. There is no entry fee, but they do have a donation box & kiosk/gift shop. They have a hatchery and if you are lucky (as we were last year in June) you can see lots of babies swimming in the pools. This year they only had a couple of tiny ones & more around 6 months. Also some injured ones that they care for that can't be re-released. We found it very helpful to have Bagus with us to translate, as the workers at the Centre could speak english, but were a bit limited.
Bagus also took us to the beach on the other side of the island. He explained that this part of the island is reclaimed land that used to be mangroves. Apparently about 30yrs ago a grant was given to reclaim the land & the plan was to develop it, but nothing much has been done since. I think he said that they have only a few more years left before the grant becomes void & reverts back to the government. It will be interesting to see what happens there then. The water at the beach there was beautiful & clean.
All in all a very interesting day.
I hope this info is helpful, if a little long winded...i do tend to rattle on a bit :)
