I booked flights online with AirAsia & misspelt my partners name. We went into the AirAsia office in Legian to see if it was okay. She said that as long as the passport number was correct it was not a problem but she changed his booking to the correct name while we were there. She did want to see his passport to confirm it.
My impression was that passport number must be correct or there will be problems at the airport. This was AirAsia & maybe Jetstar is different. I would definately phone them to check before they fly to be on the safe side.
