Jetstar rang my mobile & left a voicemail message then the next day they emailed me with the offer of upgrade for $199 each person each way.
We took up the offer for the return flight as it was a red eye special & then we still had a 3hr drive home from the airport so we thought we may get some better sleep in the better seats which we did. As our original fares were cheap we thought the offer was a good deal. Although Jetst*r Business Class is not a true business class like full service airlines it did make for a more comfortable trip home.
You could ring your airline within 2-3 days before departure or ask at check in if they are offering any upgrades. No guarantees they will have them & usually are quite expensive on for service airlines.
