We have been to cd many times and find it a great place to chill out for a while either before or after being down in the main stream ie Kuta/Legian area. W e stay at Bayshore Villas/bungalows and have found them fantastic, the staff and surroundings are great. Shopping in cd is not what you would call good but if you are into great food etc the restaurants are great. You can get a driver at any time and do day trips to Amed etc and try the coast road which has some fantastic views . There are plenty of things to keep you occupied. Hope this has been of some help.
