I would book the Jet*ar flights. For your own peace of mind. You may end up out of pocket but but at least you wont worry about getting to bali. Is your AA flight a return to Darwin? If so are you returning before the 30th April? Because they won't be bringing you back after this date. Depending on your return date if AA cannot fulfill their contract with you then you should be able to cancel your tickets and get a full refund between 30 and 60 days.

Remember re seats. You may only be seeing 14 seats because only 14 people have paid extra for seat allocation. Not everybody buys these.

My strategy would be......
1. Check Jet*ar flight prices are still available now.
2. If return flight after 30th ring AA and ask for refund because they cannot fulfull contract......if before 30th don't ring.
3. Book flights with Jets*ar
4. Sit on both sets of flights because chances are AA may stop before 30th (25th for you)of April therefore allowing you a full refund with them.

If you do end up having 2 sets of airfares and both fly CHECK the policy should you decide to go over on AA and use Jets*ar on the return leg because you may void your Jets*ar fares as you didnt use the first leg of the journey?? Confirm!

I am suggesting this because you may look at the flight times. AA schedule from Darwin maybe and earlier flight and look more attractive???

Goodluck
