I will try to keep it short
Flew Air Asia 14th Feb from Perth. Arrived on time but the flight was spoilt by a child opposite which screamed the whole trip. The parents did not appear to care. We could hear the kid screaming from one end of the terminal in Bali to the other so took our time and they had gone by the time we picked up our bags. Things improved with a very cold bintang on our arrival at the Dewi Sri, but guess what. I left my wallet in the taxi. The hotel rang the Airport Taxi's and the driver returned about 1 hour later with wallet intact. Good tip and many thanks for his honesty.
This trip was to mainly relax, it being the 14th time in 18 years. Stayed in hotel relaxing for about half the holiday having a couple of room service meals and at the restaurant, all good. Superior room at the Dewi Sri was always kept clean by the excellent staff. Third time at the Dewi Sri and will stay there again.
Used our usual driver Ketut (yes there is many ketut's) and his brother Putu (nik) for trips to Candi Dassa, Tegallalang strip, Ubud, Sanur and the usual to Denpasar shops.
Traffic in Legian Street still a problem most times with work still going on. No cars or motorbikes are allowed to park on legian Street, Poppies 2 and a lot of other streets. It appeared to be working but by the last day many cars and motorbikes parked on Legian street slowing the traffic. Police were about early in our visit moving cars on and letting a tyre down of ones they could not find owners for. Seen a few changing wheels in Legian street and no doubt the nearby store holders would have told them when they returned to their vehicle.
Went to Discovery Mall/Centro and went to top floor (stall inside the harware store) for a Simpatti card for the wife's phone 50,000 including some Gratis credit. Also topped up my Bali sim. 100,000 as I use the internet on mine. I ran out and put another 50,000 on it.
Wife went to the 911 dentist at Bali Galleria and had two fillings and a clean for about $65 AUD. No needles, She was very happy. Had to book and it was a two day wait for an appointment. 911 also have a surgery in Denpasar.
Went to double 6 street and that area for the first time. Shop keepers willing to barter and seemed to be less hassle than in the main legian/poppies lanes area. Went to the AFL shop for a Eagles Sarong (convert to a flag) and Sita for some tin wall hangings Then went back to Padma street for a club sandwich. went there twice.(Mozerella's) Excellent. Arround the corner to Ketuts in Garlic Lane for fixed price. Then back toward Bagus Restaurant which still has the coldest bintangs I have ever found in Bali.
Ate quite a few times at the Bagus Restaurant for their Nasi Goring, Mei Goring, and sizling steak. Also ate at The stadium near the Art Markets but as they are doing renovations it was very noisy. Also ate at KORI, Ardi Dahma, and a couple of other smaller places in Poppies 2, and two places in Sanur. No complaints about any meals.
Money change rate was between 9400 anf 9675 for the 14 days, mostly 9600. Nearly always at the Kodak shop at cnr poppies 2 and Legian Street. Also next to the front enterance to Mataharri's. Several advertising 9999 & 10275 which we all know we will not actually get. Local papers say they and going to stop all the illegal money changers but there is also flying pigs in Bali.
Coming home the Airport is a nightmare with the construction of the new international Terminal. When you are dropped off there is 200 metre walk to the first Xray station. Air Asia only half full for the red Eye special, Side wind was strong in Perth and about 1 metre off the ground the landing was aborted and a 25minute circle and a sort of rough landing. No one spoke for the 25 minutes.
Now back into saving mode for the next trip.
