True for hotels. But I still gind their "uncompetitive rate" better than what I can convert it for in Australia at a bank.
As for street booths, I have always been able to get a reasonable rate when paying Rupiah. They quote the price in USD and definatley give you a lower exchange rate if you pay with rupiah. Not as good rate as you would get at a kodak shop (for example), But again, I find it better than the exchange rate I would get at an aussie bank.
No point converting a whole heap of aussie dollars to USD in Oz, coz your bank will rip you off with a lousy exchange rate and usually take a comission on top of that.
