A few years back I was to travel with my 2 grandsons (14 & 16). Ended up their parents spoiled our party and joined us but before the parents jumped onboard I sat the boys down and held a meeting. I advised them about bargaining and how little 5000rp actually is. I familiarised them with money and had a few exercised buying and counting change. in fact each time they visited we had a few shopping exercises
My strongest advice was about alcohol & drugs. I wasn't too worried about them as they were both big into their footie and fitness but I stressed the fact that some of the local alcohol was dangerous. I also rattled on about drugs and the fact that all sorts of people will offer them cheap "stuff" and simply accepting could land them behind bars as policemen often were the sellers. I told them they could even take off their caps and drop a deal in it. I said the cap is worth $1 just drop it on the ground and keep walking.
I have a basic list of Dos & Don'ts if you would like a read - It has copies of the rupiah notes in it.
