Mobile phone use in Bali?????

We were told it would be far cheaper to buy a phone and sim card in Bali than use our own Mobiles, I have a pre paid mobile can I just buy a sim card over in Bali and put it in my phone? Or am I better off just buying a phone and sim card over in Bali I would love any feed back on this as I realy don't know what to do or where to go,we are staying in Tuban.Thanks in advance.
