Life in Amed,Palm Gardens Coral View, Coral Gardens ( there are more but I can't think of them!)...i loved amed so much it was so quiet and tranquil but the amount of steps is crazy in most places lol!
Sails is lovely (only ate at nighttime and their dessert with the secret sauce is amazing!) but I found the best I found for food was Beliku (sorry all have steps!) - their Mahi Mahi was better than Sails - I ate there nearly 3 times a day when I stayed in Amed! The owner has trained the staff there to taste everything they cook and know exactly how it should taste.
I thought the Grill was not great at all even though everyone says it is!
Be warned there is no ATM too in Amed and you will pay for most things in cash - Sails doesnt take cards for example!
I didnt dive but heard recommondenations for the Beliku diving school from having talked to various people who used it and they said it was very professional and Murray (aussie) is a great teacher there.
we rented flippers/snorkels from Euro Dive but they are a dive school and dont normally do that- it was just super quiet at the time so they rented us the stuff...beach guys will rent to you no problem as well as every hotel will organise for you...I tried to snorkel 2 days in a row but the first day at the Japanese shipwreck it was WAY too rough and the tide dragged us in and out on the rough stones and i gave up after 10 mins (everyone did scuba divers included!)- next day tried Jemeluk which was much easier to get into and good snorkelling but my mask was the wrong size so i lost patience with emptying and trying to defog after a short time so I'm not the best to comment on the snorkelling!!
If you do intend to snorkel bring some sea shoes!! Ones that you can walk from the beach into the water on and wear with the flippers coz the stones KILLED me getting in and out of the water! wish id had some! the scuba places will provide them if you are going to dive.
I loved Amed so so much and the local people there are so friendly and welcoming :) Its refreshing after being in Kuta/Seminyak etc after all the hustle and bustle and people constantly trying to get money out of you somehow!!
